Voice Recognition Technology doesn’t provide right solution

We were hearing for ages now that the voice recognition technology will make
Superfluous medical transcription. However the use of the technology of voice recognition had increased it appreciably could not replace the more traditional form of medical transcription.

We were hearing for ages now that the voice recognition technology will make the transcription medical superfluous. However the use of the technology of voice recognition had increased it appreciably could not replace the more traditional form of medical transcription.

Some of the key problems associated in speech recognition are that:

• The end product is just 60%-80% accurate and would need a trained MT to review and edit the report to make it error-free
• Inter-speaker differences are often large and difficult to account for. It is not clear which characteristics of speech are speaker-independent.
• The interpretation of many phonemes, words and phrases are context sensitive. For example, phonemes are often shorter in long words than in short words. Words have different meanings in different sentences, e.g. “Philip lies” could be interpreted either as Philip being a liar, or that Philip is lying on a bed.
• Intonation and speech timbre can completely change the correct interpretation of a word or sentence, e.g. “Go!”, “Go?” and “Go.” can clearly be recognized by a human, but not so easily by a computer.
• Narrative dictation has a highly interpretive nature that often requires human judgment because words and sentences can have several valid interpretations such that the speaker leaves the choice of the correct one to the listener. Have a look at some of the words that voice recognition software have generated:
“urine” from “you’re in”
“dilate” from “die late”
“cauterize” from “caught her eyes”
“nitrate” from “night rate”
• Written language may need punctuation according to strict rules that are not strongly present in speech, and are difficult to infer without knowing the meaning (commas, ending of sentences, quotations).

The person employing the software must have the practice and the attachment, to become qualified because the use of a new software is like learning a new language. The specific verbal orders must be educated in order to order the computer, and to compose, publish, and correct the text created.

Imagine what a complete disaster it would be if such a transcription takes place! The whole system of delivery of health care would be in a chaos if incorrect patient information is provided to the doctors to make decisions of treatment.

Perhaps formerly in the future one will produce a more advanced technology of voice recognition which can treat all the exits above. Until then the companies must employ of the services of transcription, in particular where exactitude is critical. The agreed times that the voice recognition can help to improve quality of the care by a better documentation and more rapids, and saves it cost and times but the need for transcriptionists and qualified medical writers of medical report/ratio will open out well in the future. In fact, it there forever have a more favorable time to enter this field impassioning of career.
